Welcoming Professor Mohd Sapuan Salit as Editor-in-Chief of Materials Engineering and Technologies

2026-08-19

We are delighted to welcome Professor Mohd Sapuan Salit as Editor-in-Chief of Materials Engineering and Technologies (MET).

Prof. Sapuan is currently a Research Fellow at the Advanced Engineering Materials and Composites Research Centre, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), where he also serves as the founding head of the centre. His research focuses on natural fibre composites, nanocomposites, nanocellulose biopolymer composites, circular economy, and concurrent engineering. He has published extensively in high-impact journals, covering topics such as the development of sustainable biocomposites, characterization of tropical natural fibres for structural applications, and the integration of design for sustainability and material selection methodologies.

Prof. Sapuan is a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, a Fellow of the Society of Automotive Engineers International (SAE) USA—the first Malaysian engineer to receive this honour—and a Fellow of the Plastics and Rubber Institute of Malaysia, the Malaysian Scientific Association, and the Institute of Materials Malaysia. He serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the journal Functional Composites and Structures and is a member of the editorial board for more than 24 international journals.

Prof. Sapuan has received numerous prestigious accolades, including the TWAS Award in Engineering Sciences (2024), the SAE Subir Chowdhury Medal of Quality Leadership (2022)—the first recipient from outside the United States—and the Malaysia's Research Star Award from the Ministry of Education Malaysia and Elsevier.

Prof. Sapuan’s expertise in sustainable materials, biocomposites, and concurrent engineering will greatly strengthen the journal’s scope and international standing. We look forward to his contributions and guidance in shaping the future of MET.
